This subject introduces students to the concepts and practices of remix: of recombining existing material to make something new.

While such practices are a highly popular form of cultural production, these practices are also highly contested, controversial and sometimes illegal. Thats is why this blog is titled unmixable - because laws prevent a great deal of content from being freely accessed or adapted.

While discussing the legal and ethical implications of remixing, this subject also focuses on the creative potential of remix from the point of view of both aesthetics and cultural engagement.

Focusing particularly on the theory and practice of editing and montage, the subject builds on and develops to an intermediate level the conceptual knowledge and creative technical skills gained in Making Networked Culture.
